What information did the EU assess prior to concluding that the 1996 constitutional revision was the outcome of a political dialogue which reflected the will of the Cameroonian citizens? The revision was done behind closed doors by Biya's stooges which is why the president has such unlimted powers over the various institutions in Cameroon and its citizens.

The current constitution gives Biya the discretion to refer certain constitutional revisions to a referendum. The articles which are up for revision especially Art. 6(2) are very sensitive and fundamental to the consolidation of democracy in Cameroon. Therefore any change to it must be submitted to a referendum. Since Biya supports his proposal to amend Art.6(2)on grounds that it is the will of the people let every Cameroonian have the chance to vote and invalidate or support his assertion

The EU advocates a free and open debate. In a free and civilized society this will be the route to take but we know from experience that any dialogue with Biya's government is fruitless. JUST LET THE CAMEROONIANS CAST A VOTE ON THE ISSUE.

EU=FRANCE= INJUSTICES

ETEKI ELAME

In politics it is a strategy to takeover the electorate by slinging so much mud, yeling, crying, litigating, lying and invalidating to the point that people are unable to discern truth from fiction. The constitution is a law. Law is a divine rule or commandment, binding on its members. The law doesnt lie. Make a good law and everyone will be fine. It is the way in which groups are governed. Groups evolve so the law too should change.Let us make a constitution that will sooth the changing times.

Dante

Mr Elame,

So who decides that the constitution no longer "suits the changing times"? The CPDM, the President? And what are these "Changing times" that we are referring to? What is the difference between 1996 and 2008 apart from the fact that in 1996 the CPDM did not have an absolute majority in Parliament as it does today? Should the constitution be a document that is changed to suit the whims and caprices of a political elite or an individual? Please clarify...

Sofi Monono(Yaoundé)

The psychopat,Eteki Elame is back. And he believes that the Law should be changed so that he and his Masters can continue to swindle the public purse.Elame, the signs of the times are clearly written on the wall.
The "mortar is crumbling from within".With the arrests of some CPDM barrons, disenchantment within your 'Njangi house',news is filtering in that some of ur 'Njangi' members are secretly working towards alternance.I bet u,u guys shall be shocked that ur biggest blow will come from where u least expected.

Oh,forgot, did u take a look at Zimbabwe, seems our man Bob is on his way out.For the first time Zimbabwe maybe going for a second round of presidential elections.Who ever dreamt of that? That should tell u guys something, the African has come of age and nobody is eternal.

Don`t you remember the days when multiparty was about to take off? What did the CPDM bigwigs say, and what was the reaction of H. E. Paul BIYA. Come again what happened to Chirac when he revealed that he was not running. Think. Why don`t you think that the President wants to rehabilitate the constitution for his apparent forerunner or preserve his integrity on his last days in power. Is there a man who can live forever? Why don`t you think that he just wants to sustain his last days in the helm with propriety. We need to preserve the African culture. If a King dies and an immediate declaration is made what becomes of his throne. Total chaos. Let us make sure that this does not happen to us. If the mandate has no limit contesters will be respetfull. They would not disrespect the one whose term is almost ending. Its important to still know that x or y is still boss even if he is not going to win again or stand again. Take note we are in Africa and still developing to the age of maturity. Cameroon should always be peaceful. The constitution is not only for the President.

The Southwesterner

Eteki is back again with his handicapped arguments. Biya your ordained leader got till 2011 to retire in honour or he will be pushed out through the back door using any methode at our disposal. You and your junta till date still hold on to that archaic view that you will alway force things down the throat of the people. Well, not anymore. That monopoly of using force has just now being broken.

Biya, his gang and followers like Elame got till 2011 to make way . You guys had it all. Huge majorities in parliament, control of the judiciary, a huge ineffective executive etc, etc. How long do they want inorder to deliver. Thank God,2011 is fast approaching. We will have a chance to reinvent Cameroon again, and Eteki and co are as well invited to join the process. Eteki, i guess we both will keep our side of the deal. 2011 in exchange for peace and inclusive reconstruction.

Sofi Monono(Yaoundé)

Eteki Elame "the psychopat",

This guy takes Cameroonians for numbskulls and fools and its in the same logic in which his masters have been carrying out business in Cameroon for 26 years. If u have children and a wife Eteki Elame, then I really pity them.

Who has ever heard of a President or Leader who wants to "preserve his integrity on his last days in power" or "sustain his last days at the helm with propriety" by trying to rule forver against the wishes of the people?

A leader who has such genuine intentions will allow the Law to run its course or even if he wants to leave power as the Law demands, what will be his interest trying to change a Law which the people are against and which it is his successor who has greater interest in doing so?

In our African traditions,a King doesn't die without having a successor and if that happens(which is rare) it is clear evidence that he was a bad King who couldn't prepare his successor bc of egoism and power mongering. In our traditions for e.g in the grasslands even when the Chief or Fon hasn't designated a successor and doesn't want to,he is forced to do so by the "Kwifon" or risk being eliminated. If he eventually dies without doing so,the "Kwifon" then chooses his successor. It was a very serious crime for a Chief or Fon to rule without having a successor bc one of the sacred duties of the "Kwifon" was to prepare the successor.

Eteki Elame(the psychopat),u have failed to use our African traditions to justify an extention of Biya's mandate.Biya hasn't prepared a successor bc of one thing,he has no intention of stepping down in 2011.And secondly,he trusts nobody bc he knows that the Sword of Damocles is hanging over his head.

Listen to him talking about respect.People will instead disrespect u and hate u,and find ways to do away with u when u stay for long. And who told u that we are running a monarchy in Cameroon? That's why I said somewhere else that Eteki Elame(the Psychopat) is a primitive fellow with the mentality of a pre_colonial African.

Peace will only be assured in Cameroon when Biya goes.Bc violence is most often the outcome of when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object.

A STRONG AND FEDERAL CAMEROON FOR A UNITED AFRICA

ETEKI ELAME

Dear Sofi MONONO,
I noticed that you are just awesome. One can take you for an Anarchist, because you seem to oppose all government,in any form. You even go to the extent of insulting anyone who sees with the government. It looks like you can even drive on the left hand while all else drive right. Please I am not mad. Try to respect yourself. Carry your black flag as far as you can go but don`t step on individual toes.
You even look at the constitutional ammendment as linked to one person;the President. Far from it. Look beyond that. Don`t be so narrow minded.
Which model does the 1996 constitution fit, centralised government or decentralised? It should be ammended to redress this issue, at least. You notice that the present government has survived so long because its power has come through legislation, judicial interpretation, and political bargaining. There is a saying that there are two ways to get things done, with a stick or a carrot. The present government has used both sticks(legislation, judicial interpretation) and carrots (finantial incentives) to expand its power. Thats how it survived peacefully and that long. Experience is the best teacher. Thus with long service it has discovered loopholes that need repairs, that will help us all in the future.
The self-interest principle states that people choose what benefits them personlly. This principle plays an obvious role in the way opinions are formed on government policies. Look at what will benefit us all.
