For its fifth issue, Summit Magazine joins the worldwide celebration of the 50th anniversary of Things Fall Apart with an interview with novelist Chinua Achebe.
In the interview, Chinua Achebe talks, among other things, about his writing, the accident which left him paralyzed, the state of Nigeria today emerging Nigerian writers, the way out for Cameroon literature in English hemmed in by the more vibrant literatures of Francophone Cameroun to the East and Nigeria to the West, etc.
Although the Achebe interview alone makes this a must-have issue, Summit No.005 is full of other interesting articles such as pictorial reports on the celebration of pioneer Cameroonian dramatist Victor Elame Musinga in the United States and the launching of the Northwest Women’s Empowerment Forum, and the story of the Reunification monument in Yaounde.
Issue No. 005 also rofiles visual artist Max Sako Lyonga whom some have described as the Cameroonian Picasso, the dynamic Nigerian Consul-General to the Northwest and Southwest provinces, Dr. Kenneth Nsor, and prominent Bamenda-based lawyer, Francis Sama.
Without doubt, Summit No. 5, which incidentally coincides with the first anniversary of the magazine will be a tough act to follow. However, the team led by Editor-in-Chief Kange Williams Wasaloko has so far proven to be up to the challenge.
Readers in the US can order copies of this special issue from the Atlanta-based Shrine of Africa. Check the Summit Magazine website for details.
