Issue #8 of Palapala Magazine, the Pan-African literary journal is now available online. This issue includes tributes to the late Cameroonian writer Mbella Sonne Dipoko from the likes of Isidore Okpewho, Distinguished Prof. of Literature; Francis Wache, Executive Editor of the Post newspaper; Prof. Lyombe Eko of Iowa University; poets/playwrights JK Bannavti and LLoney Monono; cartoonist Dante Besong; and blogger-poet Dibussi Tande who wrote the lead article.
This superb issue also includes interesting pieces such as Kangsen Wakai's essay on controversial Cameroonian music star Petit Pays titled "Nudity and the King"; novelist Dipita Kwa's commentary on the travails of writers in Cameroon; Muna Kangsen's review of music from the two Congos; "Ekechi", an excerpt from Shandie Shing Avwontom's forthcoming novella, which is incidentally set in Dipoko's beloved Tiko; the poetry of JKS Makokha, a Kenyan writer living in Berlin, and of emerging Cameroonian poet Dzekashu MacViban; and an interview with Hadeel Assali, a Palestinian-American cultural activist and founder of the Houston Palestinian Film Festival, among others.
This is, without doubt, one of the most interesting, diverse and in-depth issues of Palapala magazine thus far. This is definitely a must read issue. Tori long, time short indeed!!!
