On November 4, 1982, Ahmadou Ahidjo, president of the United Republic of Cameroon resigned from office and handed over to his Prime Minister, Paul Biya, who was sworn in on November 6, 1982. In this audio excerpt, we listen, first, to Ahidjo announcing his resignation in a speech to the nation, then to Biya being sworn in as President of the Republic by Solomon Tandeng Muna, Speaker of the National Assembly.
He was the president of a country with a great and bright future ahead of them. Well, the formal is a president that's taken a country 20 year behind time.
Where are we as a nation and a country today?

Ho-hum...
Please, let's crack a history book and look at Ahidjo's record. Who can forget Ahidjo’s greatest hits? Establishment of dictatorial presidential power. The war against the UPC and Bamileke genocide. Suppression of free speech and move to a one party state. Secret prisons in Tcholere w/ widespread torture of political dissidents. Lack of infrastructure development. Read Mongo Beti’s – Remember Ruben and Perpetua and the Habit of Unhappiness to relive the glory days of the Ahidjo years. Biya’s negligent rule has continued many of these traditions.
